Welcome to The Wilds Of Sipson web site. My name is Thomas Christopher Wild and although I now live in Pembrokeshire, West Wales my family originates from Sipson, a small hamlet situated just north of Heathrow Airport in the parish of Harmondsworth in the county of Middlesex – hence the name of the web site. Despite the encroachment of the airport and the urban sprawl of Greater London Sipson has managed to retain its own identity and todays residents have fought hard to preserve it. The Wild family lived and farmed in Sipson in an unbroken line from, at least, the 16th century until 1988 when my grandmother, the last Wild to live in Sipson, died. My father, the last Wild to farm in Sipson, had to sell the farm and move from the area when I was 6 in 1967. See the Family Articles page for more information.
My family, it seems, were keen to record their history and every generation left some records behind and various branches of the family have kept these and handed them down. I have been fortunate enough to inherit some and thanks to the internet I have found, and contacted, other family members who have happily shared their information with me. The internet has also allowed me to contact people totally unrelated to me who have been generous with their time and effort to research information on relations from outside the area for me, it seems genealogy breeds generous hearted people. Thank you to all those people.
As you may guess I am an ‘armchair genealogist’ doing most, if not all, my research from the computer. This is mostly because none of my relations come from the area I now live in and not just because I am lazy. Perhaps this is part of the reason why I wanted to put all the information I had gathered and researched onto a web site. It also seemed a shame to keep all my hard work stuck on a hard drive where only I could see it and, as this is a re-vamped front page, I can say that I have already been contacted by a relative from New Zealand and other family members have sent favour
able comments.
