The old Harlington chapel

Old Chapel circa 1880

The new chapel was built in 1879 so it is possible that the the building was still in use as a chapel when this photograph was taken. Sadly the burial ground in the front has now been paved over for car parking. Some of the headstones, including those of Thomas III and his wife Mary Ann are simply leaning against the wall on the left of the picture.

The Old Chapel, 1970

The old chapel was once described as "the ugliest building in the village". After the new chapel was built it was known as the lecture hall - because that was what it was used for! Happily the sorry state of the building shown here is no longer. It was renovated in 1975 and renamed the Frank Peace Hall in memory of a former pastor. The name did not 'stick' and its name has reverted to the Lecture Hall. Its primary use now is as the church hall for the Baptist church.
